I have had many lovely 19th century star brooches in my career but this is the finest. This beauty is 18k yellow gold and rises up in the center giving it a depth of design and allowing a level of detail rarely seen on these jewels. The top most "rays" hold natural pearls graduating in size from quite large to quite small at the point, there is another layer of 'rays" similarly set on a smaller scale alternating with the upper ones. The center holds a .10ct old mine cut cushion shaped diamond. This stunner can be worn as a brooch or you can swivel up the hidden pendant bale and attach it to your favourite chain. Marked clearly on the back 18ct, this piece dates to circa 1890.
Details.....The jewel measures 1.42" across and is in excellent condition for its age. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels, we consider it a part of their charm.
